How It Works

Converted Amount = (Input Amount ÷ From Rate) × To Rate | All rates relative to USD = 1.0

Formula: Result = (Amount ÷ From Rate) × To Rate All rates are stored relative to USD as the base currency (USD = 1.0). To convert between any two currencies, first convert the amount to USD by dividing by the from-currency rate, then multiply by the to-currency rate. Example: Convert £500 GBP to EUR. GBP rate = 0.79 (meaning £0.79 = $1 USD) EUR rate = 0.92 USD equivalent = £500 ÷ 0.79 = $632.91 EUR result = $632.91 × 0.92 = €582.28 Reverse rate (1 EUR in GBP) = GBP rate ÷ EUR rate = 0.79 ÷ 0.92 = 0.858. The 15 currencies included are USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, CAD, INR, JPY, CHF, NZD, SGD, HKD, MXN, BRL, ZAR, and SEK — covering the most commonly exchanged pairs globally.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these exchange rates accurate?

The rates are approximate and were last updated in late 2024. They are suitable for estimation, travel budgeting, and quick reference — not for live trading or exact financial transactions. Exchange rates fluctuate constantly; for accurate live rates, use your bank's rate, or Google Finance immediately before making a transfer or payment.

Why is the rate I get at my bank different from this calculator?

Banks and currency exchange services apply a margin (spread) above the mid-market rate shown in calculators and finance sites. This spread is how they profit from currency exchange — it typically ranges from 1–4% for major currency pairs at banks, and can be 5–15% at airport exchange kiosks. The mid-market rate shown here is the midpoint between buy and sell rates — the fairest benchmark, but not the rate you will actually get.

Which currencies are included?

This converter includes 15 major currencies: US Dollar (USD), British Pound (GBP), Euro (EUR), Australian Dollar (AUD), Canadian Dollar (CAD), Indian Rupee (INR), Japanese Yen (JPY), Swiss Franc (CHF), New Zealand Dollar (NZD), Singapore Dollar (SGD), Hong Kong Dollar (HKD), Mexican Peso (MXN), Brazilian Real (BRL), South African Rand (ZAR), and Swedish Krona (SEK).

What is the best currency to exchange for travel?

Exchange your home currency for local currency before travel or withdraw from an ATM on arrival using a card with no foreign transaction fees (e.g., Wise, Charles Schwab, Revolut). Avoid airport exchange kiosks and hotel exchange desks — their rates are typically 10–20% worse than the mid-market rate. Use this converter to understand roughly how much local currency you need before comparing rates from banks or travel money services.

Is the currency converter free?

Yes — free with no account needed. All calculations run in your browser using hardcoded rates and no data is stored. For live rates or financial transactions, use a real-time source. This tool is designed for quick estimation and travel planning, not for trading or bank transfers.
